The latest driver technology allied with knowledge gained during the development of the Quantum 1000 series has been used as a basis for the Quantum 800 series. It has allowed the creation of a range of a range of speakers that provide a perfect combination of neutrality and immediacy. The requirement was to create a speaker series that satisfies the highest audio requirements while simultaneously being particularly elegant as furniture.
A ceramic/aluminium cone has been employed in the woofer and bass-midrange speakers. Despite its low mass, this material it is extremely stiff while still processing high intrinsic damping properties. The cones operate as pure pistons in the bass range while becoming a bending wave transducer at mid frequencies. This ensures that a seamless transition to the tweeter is achieved. The cone is supported in an airflow-optimised die-cast aluminium chassis that also incorporates ventilation for cooling of the voice coil. This chassis material is structurally inert and non-magnetic, which contributes towards the speaker's efficiency. The driver was developed using FEM (finite element method) technology and operates with enhanced linearity and symmetry. This not only results in extremely low distortion but also improves fine resolution and the sense of space the speakers are able to recreate. All of the drive units possess highly durable voice coils.
The "F-Max Signature" tweeter features a low-mass, hand-coated glass fibre/fabric dome. The 25mm membrane has a very wide surround which optimises dispersion properties at the highest frequencies. The magnet core is ventilated via a coupled and microfibre damped chamber. The tweeter faceplate has been designed as a flat horn to produce uniform dispersion properties in the transition to the midrange. An additional advantage provided by the tweeter's tightly controlled dispersion properties is in the reduction of interference from edge reflections.
The APOC crossover not only incorporates a fourth order filter, ( a complex but effective solution with regard to performance) it also guarantees that the phase for each individual speaker is equal over the transitional range. The result is a particularly clear sound pattern with inaudible transitions between the drivers.
Accurate bass reflex alignment was achieved with the help of the Klippel laser measuring system. In contrast to standart methods: which employ conventional Thiele/Small parameter measurements and which are only applicable for the result is a deep and precise bass reproduction at all listening levels. The Airflex bass reflex ports have been screwed to the housing and are equipped with aerodynamically shaped openings.
The wooden cabinet, manufactured from solid MDF, features extensive internal bracing for additional reinforcement.
Optimal location of the speakers is ensured by the use of damped metal feet, which can be supplemented with height adjustable spikes in the case of the floor-standing models. The solid gold-plated connecting terminals are encapsulated in acrylic insulation and ensure optimum connection to the amplifier.
The Quantum 800 series is available in black piano lacquer or real wood weneers sealed with clear lacquer.
The Omega Limited model is the Top-of-the-Range of the new Magnat Omega Sub series. Further enhances all the relevant structural and design details. The allowed excursion of the driver, amplifier power, structural integrity of the cabinet are all improved. The cabinet itself is finished in a piano lacquer. The Limited model is the perfect addition to even the highest quality home cinema system.
