The new Quantum 650 series is the result of an extensive revision of its predecessor. All of the relevant design elements have been re-examined. Many of the new features are usually only found in far more expensive products. A newly developed F.E. Dynamics driver chassis carrying a very stiff & light aluminium/ceramic cone is employed for bass/mid-range duties and results in a very precise and dynamic sound. These non-magnetic speaker baskets manufactured from carbon fibre-reinforced ABS have been airflow-optimised to reduce turbulence. The voice coils are designed for high power handling and operate within an air cooling system that has also been incorporated within the profile of the speaker chassis. Another technical highlight is the fully redesigned HRH tweeter. The abbrevation stands for "Harmonic Radiation Horn" which describes the acoustic function of the tweeter's profile. Thanks to its speacial shape; initially simulated on a computer and then optimised through numerous measurement and listening tests, its dispersion properties perfectly match those of the bass/midrange driver. This technology ensures a particularly smooth transition in the critical upper mid-range which is where the integration between the cone driver and dome tweeter occurs. A further significant change is the use of a newly developed, lightweight 30mm dome giving an excellent transient response. The level matched and phase optimised 4th order crossovers give each driver a precisely defined range of operation and are assembled using premium quality components including film capacitors and air cored inductors.
High purity copper cables from specialists Oehlbach are used for internal wiring. Heavy duty bi-wiring/bi-amping terminals with gold-plated screw connections allow optimum contact. The bass reflex alignment along with the drive units were developed with our in-house Klippel® laser measuring system. This allows testing at many different frequencies and levels which helps to give the best possible performance from a driver in a particular enclosure. All of the reflex ports flow-optimised (seen in their flared profile) which minimises port noise and all are flush mounted in the cabinets for mechanical stability and to give a smooth transition with the surrounding air. "A further unusual feature at this price level is the elaborate cabinet design, most significant aspect of which being the shape. Due to the curved side panels, internal standing waves wthin the enclosure are minimised. In addition, extensive internal bracing ensures tremendous structural integrity and a complete freedom from resonance. Solid, 25mm thick, high-gloss finished baffles guarantee an inert platform for the driver chassis helping them to deliver extended accurate bass. Furthermore, the floorstanding speakers and the subwoofer also each come with a substantial plinth to ensure isalation from the floor. All of the speakers are provided with height-adjustable rubber feet and the floorstanding speakers also come with metal spikes. The drivers themselves are protected by an acoustically transparent removable grille.
The centre speaker and subwoofer have been specially developed for their particular areas of application. Both the geometry of the acoustic baffle and tuning of the crossover in the centre speaker have been designed to ensure high speech intelligibility. The subwoofer, featuring "Down Fire" technology is equipped with a solid base plate that not only isolates it from the floor, but also acts as an acoustic mid-range filter. The subwoofer also features its own adjustable high-power amplifier to ensure perfect coordination with the other speakers in a home cinema system.
It's not only the elaborate technological features that makes the uantum 650 range of speakers so appealing. The clean styling, modern lines and high quality workmanship all help to turn a high-tech acoustic instrument into a fine piece of furniture thet enchances any home. The Quantum 650 speaker range is available in a black, mocca, cherry or calvados finish.
