Compact size, elegant design and flexibility to be used in a wide range of applications: These are key characteristics of the new Interior Sub-Sat system line from Magnat. However, the sound quality is of even greater importance. Many commercially available systems of a comparable size pay heavily for their compactness and seemingly low price through the use of very basic technology applied with severe compromises in terms of potential performance.
This is quite different from the Magnat Interior systems. The 2-way technology, i.e a separate bass-midrange speaker and tweeter, is a common feature shared by all of the satelitte and centre speakers. The satelitte speaker enclosures are configured in with coaxial geometry and the centre speaker has been designed in a horizontal layout with two bass-midrange drivers. The tweeters are genuine fabric domes with a short flared short horn giving improved coupling to the air. This ensures effortless and transparent reproduction of the high frequencies, which allows the recreation of a plausible three dimensional image. The bass-midrange drivers are extremely compact, but their 'long throw' cones have the ability to move significant distances with minimal distortion so they can play cleanly at high levels. Shileded, double magnet motor systems are incorporated to allow the speakers to be safely placed anywhere. The cones are manufactured from coated, long-fibre paper. The advantage offered by this material is its low weight which results in improved sensitivity and good self damping properties which results in less colouration of the sound.
The crossover networks used are both level and phase-optimised combining the woofer and tweeter seamlessly as an acoustically harmonius unit. The enclosures provide optimal operating conditions for the speaker drivers. The solid panels manufactured from fibre-reinforced ABS, are rigidly screwed together. All of the satellite and centre speakers are equipped with a precisely calculated bass reflex port to ensure pressure equalisation behind the main driver and extend the lower frequency response.
Active subwoofers, i.e. subwoofers equipped with an inbuilt amplifier and bass reflex loaded drive unit, are used to reproduce the lowest notes. The drivers used are again of a long-throw design with steel chassis and stiffened paper cones. The amplifiers have been accurately matched to the cabinets & drivers with regar to power and configuration. All of the subwoofers can be individually adjusted in terms of crossover frequency and volume level to match different acoustic conditions or indeed different preferences with regard to the presentation of the sound. The enclosures for the subwoofers are manufactured from substantial MDF panels and stand on solid rubber feet to limit energy transfer into resonant floors.

This comprises 4 satellites, a dedicated centre speaker and a subwoofer with a 200 mm driver and has been designed for use in 5.1 home cinema applications. All of the enclosures for the satellite and centre speakers, as well as the solid front panel of the subwoofer, are finished in a high-gloss piano black. The speakers are supplied with five bases for shelf installation which can be used to adjust the vertical angle of the speakers, as well as five mounting brackets that allow for individual horizontal adjustment when the speakers are used in this way.
The Magnat Interior 501A system has also been designed for 5.1 home cinema use. It has the same centre and satellite configuration as the 5001A system and it is available in either a Black Silk or Silver Silk finish. The subwoofer is very compact and is equipped with a 175 mm driver. Three shelf mounting bases and two wall mounting brackets are included with the package.
